The WiseEye - Elderly Monitoring System

Research Project Scope

The project aims to develop an integrated Internet of Things (IoT) device along with a companion mobile application dedicated to monitoring the activities and ensuring the safety of the elderly. The scope involves implementing sensors capable of detecting emergencies like falls and utilizing machine learning and image classification algorithms to identify these occurrences. The system will automatically notify caregivers or family members in case of an emergency. It will also employ behavioral pattern analysis to predict and notify about changes in the activity levels of the elderly.

Research Problem

The caregiving for the elderly poses significant challenges in ensuring their safety and well-being. Constant monitoring is often required, and caregivers need to be attentive to emergencies. Recognizing and addressing these challenges is crucial for enhancing the elderly's health and quality of life. The key issue is to provide an effective and reliable elder care solution that alleviates the burden on caregivers and ensures immediate response during emergencies.

Research Objectives

The Elderly Monitoring System's main objective is to provide senior caregivers with a trustworthy and useful way to monitor the health of their loved ones. The system aims to give elderly people's families and caregivers peace of mind while also improving their safety, security, and quality of life. The system's goal is to improve senior citizens' quality of life by making it possible to monitor various aspects of their health and safety in real-time. The system aims to provide comprehensive and proactive aged care that fosters independence, safety, and peace of mind by integrating cutting-edge technologies like speech recognition, activity tracking, and accident detection.

Automation for System Activation and Deactivation

The research component of the elderly monitoring system aims to automate system activation and deactivation to enhance responsiveness when elders are alone.

Automatic Accident Detection and Location Tracking

The system prioritizes automatic accident detection and precise location tracking as fundamental features, ensuring rapid response and immediate assistance in critical situations.

Voice and Sound recognition

Voice and sound recognition play a pivotal role in the system, enabling sophisticated identification and response mechanisms tailored to the unique needs of the elderly.

Activity level prediction using behavioral pattern analysis​

Utilizing behavioral pattern analysis, the system predicts activity levels, offering proactive insights into the daily routines of the elderly for efficient and personalized care.

Solution

The proposed solution involves creating an IoT-based device coupled with a mobile application. This system will monitor the activities and well-being of the elderly. It will leverage sensors for automatic accident detection and employ image classification and machine learning algorithms to recognize emergency situations. By analyzing behavioral patterns and daily routines, the system will establish a baseline of typical activity levels and predict deviations from these patterns. Ultimately, the solution aims to offer a dependable and proactive approach to elder care by providing timely alerts to caregivers or family members when changes in activity levels are detected.
